Holy cow, what a schnitzel sandwich!

Food was great. Jägersnitzel was delicious, spaetzle was some of the best I have had. Service was a bit slow, but I did get a free beer since I was a guest at the Holiday Inn Express. Sweet!

Good place to stop while travelling on I-80. Tanya had the Turkey Reuben and I had a bbq burger. Both were presented well and tasted good. I really enjoyed the green beans and bacon side dish. I definitely would recommend. BTW, they offer wifi access.

Staff was nice, and a good view got them an extra star. My wife's sauerbratten was only half heated. Potato pancakes were luke warm and made with too much flour. My schnitzel was over cooked and under seasoned and the spatzel tasted like it had been soaking in water for hours. But the sauerkraut was good with a touch of caraway.

Had friends take us there, were supposed to have a table inside, got switched to outside which would not of been a problem, but for the poor service . Over two hours to receive a sandwich. It was dark by the time our food came and all the lights were burned out so it was impossible it even see our food. No offer to. Move us or reseat us. No apologies or any management feedback. One of the worst service experiences. E

My mom and I stopped by for a late lunch. It was a nice day so we sat out on the patio which had a lovely view of the river. We were planning to hit up another spot for dinner so we decided to split the Boston Reuben with German Potato Salad. While we were waiting for our meal, we spotted another table with the Bavarian pretzel appetizer. The order is two gigantic pretzels with cheese for dipping. We were going to a movie after lunch and I was half tempted to ask the waitress if we could purchase just one pretzel sans cheese but I didn't. But with how good it looked, I wish we had. Our food arrived quickly and the sandwich was so tasty! The potato salad was good but nothing too exciting. Splitting the meal with my mom was more than enough to fill both of us so we left happy. If I'm ever in the area again, I will be sure to stop by again. Pro tip: I heard a waitress metnion to another employee that if you're a guest at the hotel across the street you get a free pint.

Just over the Mississippi River from Illinois is nestled this tasty teutonic treat, right on the western bank. With a great view of the river and a modestly-sized patio make for a nice accent to the Old-World, dark wood decor of the interior. The service was friendly and quick. The sausages here are delicious, the sauerkraut is really tasty and the rye bread is thick and hearty. The spatzel and potato pancakes were both fine, but not to par with the quality of the sausage/kraut. So many beers on tap. Seriously, like, a lot. It's one of my favorite meal stops in Eastern Iowa. Give it a try!

First of all, any place that has a Manchester United flag hanging in the place ESPECIALLY a "German" bar starts with 1 star automatically. Second, any German place that advertises Bitreburger needs to have it available. We went in for lunch and no Bitburger, then I asked for a Lakefront, no lakefront. I got the Ruben and it was ok, wasn't the best, but not the worst, fries were great. Wife had the schnitzel sandwich, which she said was good, potato pancakes were mediocre. The service was pretty good, very friendly. Manager there has followed up with my concerns in a professional way. Building is also located on an amazing location on the riverfront, place has plenty of TVs for sports. Overall it was good. It's what you would expect, German restaurant in Small town Iowa.

Great atmosphere right along the Mississippi river. The staff was very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. The food came quick and was delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant for dinner good German food!

Pros: Great ambiance and the drinks are priced pretty well - I saw an ad in bathroom for $3 vodka/gin/rum! Cons: Food was definitely unimpressive. Bratwurst sliders looked like a frozen patty that was microwaved. The sauerkraut tasted off. Just vinegar and no seasoning and the kaesespaetzle was bland. All of the food needed seasoning and salt. Our server was unremarkable - not particularly friendly, but not rude either. She got the job done and that was that. I will not be returning - why pay for something that wasn't so good?

We stumbled on this place while visiting the Iowa Visitors Center (worth the visit). Decided that a German lunch right on the banks of "Old Muddy" would be an experience. The menu is varied and features a long list of German dishes. Good beer selection too. I opted for a Reuben sandwich with a side of German potato salad and red cabbage. While not outstanding, the meal was tasty, fresh and fast. The place is large with a big bar, booths overlooking the river and a few highboy tables in the middle of the bar room. If you ever get to LeClaire, IA stop at the Iowa visitors center and then get a bite at the "stube". Oh ya also check out Antique Archeology from the History Channel's American Pickers show.

While I have yet to find authentic German food within the confines of the US, this place gives a good try. The sausage selection (6) is pretty good, and the schnitzel is ok. The pork shank would be much better if they kept it deutsch and didn't use US BBQ sauce (come on, folks!) There is a nice selection of German beers on tap and in bottles, so they get good marks for that. The weisswurst and the bratwurst are the best things on the menu.

This is a good place to stop in and grab a quick bite to eat and drink. With it being right off of Interstate I-80, its a good place to take a break from the road. The prices of drinks are not that bad, and if you stay at the local holiday inn they will give you a free beer or soft drink. The view of the river is great, but sadly I wasn't able to see much of it due to the blizzard that day. I would recommend stopping in for a quick bit at least once if you are in the quad cities!

I had not been to Bierstube in a while, so I was not sure what to expect. I remember them having quite a few beers on tap, but their lunch menu did not list many (they must have a separate menu for their beers?). Their menu has a decent amount to choose from, but it's not overly expansive. They do have some cheap drink specials though. I'm really not the biggest fan of German food, and I was not feeling adventurous the day we went, so I ordered a burger. It was really overdone (I ordered it medium). I wouldn't order it again. I have not had their German food in a while, so I don't really remember if they quality was good or not. Overall, the service was pretty good (we sat outside overlooking the river). I don't have many complaints, but I wasn't really impressed either. It's just mediocre.

The service and food is very good and the selection of beer is outstanding. Some of the best German food around

  • Mike L.

Bierstube came highly recommended. So we tried it for the first time. I understand that restaurants get busy but a 2 hour wait for our meal seemed excessive. The service was subpar with little explanation other than a couple of half hearted apologies. Not a good impression!

  • Sam R.

Place was nice. Service was nice. Food was okay. There are no blinds on the windows so if you come with a big group, expect to be separated or blinded for the whole meal. The menu has many typos. And the font is not original. As long as the food is good though, right? It's normal bar food. Nothing to rave about. They have all their sides listed in one place. So when I ask for onion rings (which I did not get with my meal - waitress oops) they don't tell you there is an upcharge. Overall? Mediocre. Good for a good greasy lunch for two.

I'm always looking for authentic german cuisine and after living in Germany I tend to be picky. I had heard about this place and decided to give it a try. The place is nice but the beer selection is limited more than I would like due to local tastes, and the food doesn't have the homemade quality I enjoyed in Germany. But we aren't in Germany, so it is what it is, passable german cuisine. Have I mentioned that I'm picky about german food? On a positive note, the sausage sampler platter is quite good and features some of the most authentic sausages I've tried state side. You couldn't get better sausages without a trip overseas. If you're looking for a small taste of Germany then give it a try.

Excellent service and atmosphere for enjoyable and relaxed evening! Had the Bierstube burger with onion rings. It was a break from the conventional burger and very tasty. They have several t.v.'s for entertainment and a grand selection of drinks to choose from.

We stopped for lunch on Thursday on our way into iowa and the food was so good we came back for dinner on our way home Monday. I think we've tried all the sides a couple entrées, appetizers and the Ruben sandwich. Wow the food was exceptional! All homemade with fresh ingredients. Service was superb from when we walked in to table service. It was without a doubt the best German food in the friendliest and cleanest restaurant we have ever eaten!!

We planned to eat in historic downtown LeClaire, but this place called us. Terrific selection. The Reuben was wonderful with real corned beef - not sliced deli meat. The German potato salad was the best I've ever had. Jack had a burger on a great pretzel bun with red cabbage that was very tasty. Will definitely plan to stop here on future trips. I couldn't finish my sandwich, but had to order the homemade Black Forest cake.

I was in town for a wedding. Love this bar. The location isn't great but the bartender was fun and let us try a few things.

  • Hans S.

Had the Schwarzwald Kuchen (Black Forest Cake), it was subpar to say the least. It was very cheap tasting and had close to no flavor. I suggest if Bierstube wants to have a more authentic flavor they might want to invest more money into their ingredients. On a brighter note: The people their are very nice and it has a good atmosphere. Plus a great view of the Mississippi!

We stopped here for a few beers before we drove into Le Claire. The place wasn't busy and our server was really friendly. I can't speak about their food but if it's anything like the food at the Bier Stube in Moline, I'm sure it's great.

We did not eat here, we just went for drinks after dinner. They were out of a lot of things and couldn't make a mint julep. They did, however, make a Kahlua and cream and did a good beer sampler. The bartender was not as knowledgeable about drinks as I would like, but he was very knowledgeable about the beer.

The family and I lived in Germany for 3+ years. We waited awhile to visit this place, because we were wary due to the mixed reviews. I admit it... My hubby and I ordered burgers instead of German food. Others in my group did order some German foods. First: Spaetzle that I've had here in Iowa (including that which I had in the Amana colonies) is nothing like the Spaetzle I got used to in Germany. Next: The potato salad was tasty, but again, nothing like I'd hoped it might be. And then: The main dishes that were German were adequate but nothing special in my opinion. And Finally: The burgers were awesome. Go figure. Good beer. My conclusion: Good place to watch the game while drinking a beer and eating a burger. As for the German food, I could take it or leave it. Not bad, but not exactly making me nostalgic for Germany... I still wouldn't mind going back... would be quite nice sitting on the river with a beer... what a nice relaxing view...

Overall a bad experience. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered a burger and specified "no pink." It came burned on the outside and pink inside. The green beans with bacon was very disappointing. The beans were undercooked (not al dente, but rather tough). There were bacon bits, but nothing else. I tried to salt them, but the grains of salt wouldn't stick to the beans. As for the ambiance, it was noisy and dirty. Worst part - the host, who was also cleaning tables, dropped the cloth on the floor, picked it up and wiped the table. Now, I know that the Mythbusters proved that the 5-second rule was true, but still...

Save yourself a trip. Came in with a foursome in the summer about 5 pm on a Saturday ready to have a few beers and dinner. Had to seat ourselves on the patio even though there were more people working there than patrons. Only one other table of about 6 on the patio partying and 2 tables inside. After being ignored for about a half hour and not even being acknowledged inside or outside by any staff and not getting so much as a drink or water or menus we all got up and left. It became very apparent that all the locals knew each other and if you were an outsider they wouldn't give you the time of day. Most of the food was all German anyhow and not much edible from the looks of it, for the few patrons that actually got to eat

Stopped in last Sunday night around 7:00. We were staying at the motel next door. Took a table by the window. Pretty cold wind coming thru. It was tolerable. About 15 people watching a game and didn't pay attention at first there was only one person with food. They seemed to be locals. Ordered 2 sausage plate, weisswurst and brat, potato salad, cabbage. My wife ordered Jaeger Schnitzel. I got white sausage and a wiener looking one. One was not a brat and one was not a weisswurst. (Having been in the food industry as well as my Austrian roots I feel I can tell the difference.) The wiener looked to be freeze dried on the end and both plates of food were kind-a warm and the spaetzle was more like a cold pasta salad with a lot of garlic. We were very hungry so we ate. I did inform the waitress but she never brought anything up about it again. At the end of the meal I explained that although tasty, service was okay but the food was delivered cold and incorrect again. She offered to buy us dessert. We declined. Typical chain restaurant but seems to be lacking passion for good food and service. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.

    1. Service ok 2. Don't take my driver's license as a deposit for a specialty beer glass and tell me that I don't think you are going to steel the glass but they make me do it. 3. Don't serve me my expensive beer in a glass that is chipped across the top lip. Luckily it didnt cut my lip. 4. Saurbratten was tough, old and blah. 5. Experience ? Won't be back.

Hubs and I visit this Bierstube for lunch and a cold beer. I had a really good bottle of organic beer (can't recall the name), I think it was a hefeweizen. Great location on the Mississippi River. A few small hotels are nearby. Food is good, not great. Update: Recently attended Sunday brunch. This is a beautiful building. The eagles were cool to watch on the river. The brunch was average. It is set up in an odd area, very near a row of booths. I personally wouldn't be seated there and be disturbed by people in line with plates in hand, selecting their food. Omelets are made in the kitchen for no additional charge. They had a variety of sausages which was good. I wouldn't patronize the Bierstube for brunch if it weren't for the exceptional location and view of the river.

Taryn the bartender was very nice but not what I'd call attentive. Sadly for this place, my stepmother is from Germany and this food is schiesse compared to what Elke makes. Greasy burnt-tasting spaetzle, dried out wurst cooked just long enough to turn it to rubber and Weisswurst with an odd "oldish" flavor. However, the "German Rye bread" was soft and fresh with real butter soft enough to spread and great Braunschweiger. Cubes of food service (sysco?)cheese rounded out the over priced and unimpressive meal. Disappointing at best, I wouldnt waste my time or money to eat here again. I really wanted to love the place but it just wasn't even close enough to good to make that happen.

  • Blake B.

Good beer selection. The food is always a little greasier than I'd prefer, but that's the style. And it's always flavorful! Good fries. The Ruben with coleslaw instead of sauerkraut is my fav & the cowboy BBQ burger is good too. Good wings & cheap on Wednesday's. Nice atmosphere.

My two young daughters, sister, and myself were shopping on Cody St. in LeClaire and debated a while on where to eat our early dinner/late lunch. We decided to drive a bit down the road to Bierstube. It wasn't very busy, but it wasn't a busy time of day, so that didn't worry us (plus less people for my girls to bother should they get rambunctious). My sister and I split the Jägerschnitzel with spaetzle and onion rings, and the girls shared the kids cheddarwurst. The food came quickly and we were pleasantly surprised that both dishes had already been halved for us. That was amazing (it's the little things). It was all super delicious. Good food, great service. We'll be back for sure.

  • Bill C.

A couple of OK dishes but grimy table, dirty seats and sloppy service will keep us from coming back. When we sat down, our arms stuck to the tacky feeling table top. Looking at the bench seat, we had to sweep the bits of food off to the floor before sitting down. Hostess had no menus. Waitress asked us if we were only drinking (me my wife and our three underage children?!) Ruben corned beef was lean but overlooked. German potato salad was ok. Rest of family did not care for their dishes, about half the food left behind. Took someone's recommendation on Yelp on the pretzel with nutella and that was pretty good for a sweet finish, Place was filled with bikers (not corporate execs on holiday, real bikers) which at least made it colorful in the beginning. As far as a beer joint, it would be fine. As far as a dinner place, meh, pass.

I must say previously we have eaten here and had good service. BUT recently we stopped ,were seated by them so they knew we were there we sat patiently and were ignored for several minutes watched another group seated that were in the parking lot smoking when we were seated They were seated brought drinks and food orders taken while we waited , at least 2 waitresses were working ,including the bartender that took drinks to a table on the perimeter of the room,,, we were sitting in the middle We left without ordering and I dont plan on going back !

Another great Bierstube. Now in Leclaire. Large windows give a great view of the river. Has a great comfy interior, with a large long bar. The food taste exactly like the stube in Davenport. Very authentic, rich in flavor (I've been to Germany). A lot of beers on tap and cold. One of the special things about this Stube is they now have breakfast 7am Saturdays and Sundays. Recommend: Jager Schnitzel, European Splitter, Biscuits and Gravy, Ruben, Bierstube burger. Recommend sides: red cabbage, potato pancake, hot German potato salad Recommended Beer: Warsteiner Dunkel, Spanten.

My co-worker and I were staying right next to this restaurant so we decided to try it out for dinner. They have a great menu of german beers and authentic food. We started with the hot pretzels and cheese and you can't go wrong with that! He ordered a brat with hot german potato salad and I ordered a cheddar wurst with the potato pancake. the sides were awesome-the potato pancake left me craving more than one! The meat was served on beyond stale buns so we ditched those and tried out the spicy brown mustard, which is indeed spicy, so use sparingly unless you want your sinuses cleaned out for you! The server was friendly and the place filled up pretty quickly! I was happy that we got to try a local place and enjoyed it!

We were on a Cannonball run from New Jersey to California on I-80 this week and made the decision to find a place on the Mississippi for lunch. Wow what a nice find! Great rubens and oooh, how I wish we could have had beers and just hung out all afternoon! The ladies room was super clean and the bartender was fast, friendly and nice. Not a fan of the fries, but the potato pancake and coleslaw were delicious! Yum Yum Yum!

Drinks are well priced, service is very good. Not a fan of the new pretzel buns on the italian beef. Highly recommend brunch on Sundays!

Service was OK but I wouldn't say that anyone went out of their way to offer "great" service. Food was alright. I used to love their potato salad, but when it comes out hot with a couple of cold spots, it is just not a good thing. Not a fan of their pretzel bread.....

Husband and I recently moved to the area and tried this place on a break from lifting heavy furniture. They have my favorite on tap (hard cider) and my husband, a wing man, says they have the best wings in the QC. I love the ultimate grilled cheese, hot potato salad and the red cabbage. The patio is great when it's warm enough and the bugs are cooperating. This is a great place to meet with friends, grab some food and just hang out.

Slow service and below average service leads to a poor dining experience. They should consider pulling some staff from the other location to help this one out.

Stop in Sunday morning and have the Bavarian Breakfast which is Weiswurst, a pretzel and weisbier, very tasty all together.
